Better Combat Training v1
Increases the amount of time training is active and adds different diffiuclty/xp reward tiers as well. Range where a trainer can accept combat has also been slightly increased.
Description
Combat training has been tweaked to last much longer, so training actually feels fun and meaningful rather than lasting only a few seconds. There are three difficulty modes: Default, Hard, and Very Hard, which can be toggled on/off with F9, F10, and F11 respectively. The text will show on screen every time a change is made.
-Default mode still features combat changes, such as significantly longer-lasting training with combat trainers, while retaining vanilla trainer difficulty.
-Hard mode increases the combat trainer’s overall skill, and both Henry and the trainer take a little more damage so fights do not last too long. XP gained will be higher in this mode compared to Default mode.
-Very Hard mode increases the trainer’s overall fencing skill even more while making both Henry and the respective trainer take more damage. This mode provides the highest XP bonus.
-The range at which combat trainers can accept combat has been slightly increased, around a few feet/meters, so they do not have to stand in one exact spot to accept combat. They can be around 6–10 feet, or 2–3 meters, away depending on the specific trainer. The values do not allow me to increase the range more than that.
-If you choose the “real fight” option instead of training with wooden sticks, fights will of course be shorter, but XP gained will be much higher than in practice mode to compensate for the shorter duration.
Other facts:
-Hard/Very Hard mode buffs only apply to trainers and not the NPCs that fight alongside trainers in practice.
-Remember to press F9 to disable the mod if you do not want various combat trainers to receive their buffs outside of practice. This can be helpful during certain quests like Menhart’s. The game starts with the mod enabled.
-Very Hard mode takes priority over Hard mode, so if both are on, Very Hard mode is what will be enabled. To use Hard mode, make sure Very Hard mode is off.
-Combat trainers may appear to take little or no damage initially, but this is normal until their stamina pool deteriorates enough. After that, their health will decrease rapidly.
-Other possible future updates for this mod could include adding more difficulty modes, which would allow for more comprehensive changes such as increased combat speed, faster weapon zone changes, higher attack aggression from combat trainers, etc.
Main combat tip:
-Try fully charging your attack by holding the attack button. Start by charging from the side opposite the opponent’s weapon stance. For example, if your opponent is holding their weapon to their right, which appears on your left from your perspective, then charge your attack from your right side. When you release the attack, quickly switch the attack direction to your left side, toward the side where the opponent is holding their weapon. The same applies for up and down positions. This will make it extremely difficult for the opponent to block.
Known issues:
The only issue I’ve noticed so far is that occasionally after combat, the trainer will immediately initiate combat again. You can simply ask them to stop fight if this happens.
