Saint Antiochus’ Die Rebalanced (PTF) v1.0
Rebalances Saint Antiochus’ die in accordance with the in-game description. Still very powerful in a set.
DESCRIPTION
If you were like me and originally went through the trouble to get a whole set of six Saint Antiochus’ dice, then you probably wanted to be completely overpowered in the dicing mini-game. We all have our reasons. But maybe you are also sympathetic to the general idea behind the patch 1.3 rebalance, and want to make Henry’s cheating a little bit more interesting than literally only rolling 3’s.
My problem with WH’s rebalance is that the die got nerfed to the point of being almost worthless, as well as directly contradicting the in-game description and source material it is referencing. Having a relatively high chance of rolling a 3 (40% in the latest patch) is actually pretty bad since the only way to score is to have at least three 3’s together in a single roll (only about a 45% chance assuming you have six Antiochus’ dice), and that still only ends up being worth 300 points per round (compared to 1000 points for a higher chance of three 1’s from a Weighted die set or Pie die set, with the significant added benefit of being able to score those 1’s individually if necessary). Rolling all six 3’s to score big like they used to got reduced to only about a 0.4% chance after the patch! Jesus Christ, that nerf was dynamite!
This mod simply rebalances the Saint Antiochus’ die to ALMOST always roll a 3. Not 2. And especially not 4. But sometimes 6 (or 1 for reasons). The probability table it uses is as follows:
1010002
This means any individual die now has about a 77% chance to roll a 3, a 8% chance of a 1, a 15% chance of a 6, and never rolls a 2 or 4 (or 5 since that is obviously right out).
For example, this means that on an initial roll of six Saint Antiochus’ dice:
-Getting at least three 3’s is about a 97% chance (almost always score at least 400 per round, but with zero risk of going bust since even the rare case of less than three 3’s means you must either have at least three 6’s instead or some combination of 6’s and 1’s which can still be scored).
-Getting at least four 3’s is about a 87% chance (most of the time you will score at least 600 which adds up fast).
-Getting at least five 3’s is about a 58% chance (more often than not score 1200 which makes these feel superior again compared to other powerful die sets).
-Getting all six 3’s is only about a 20% chance (not every game, but frequently enough you will get that big 2400 and bonus re-roll).
This ultimately means these are still probably the most powerful dice in the game as a set, and you will still win pretty much every game of dice you play, but there is the added benefit of preventing every single game from being the same repeated shutout for the other player. Your opponent will likely at least have a chance to throw a round or two, and maybe even win once in a while if they are lucky enough and/or using sufficiently loaded dice to hit a straight right out of the gate. And that is a chance I’m personally happy to take.
