The KCD2 Camping Mod
This mod enhances the roleplaying experience in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, allowing players to set up their own authentic personal campsites anywhere in the world. Perfect for immersive roleplaying, it lets you take a break from or during your adventures to rest beneath the stars, cook a meal by the campfire, and truly live the life of a medieval traveler.
Preface:
I’ve released this with enough functionality to be fun now, with the aim of developing it further based on interest and feedback from you all. Please don’t hesitate to comment suggestions and what you do and don’t like about the approach I’ve taken so far, and how it should be improved as I work on it. I can’t guarantee I’ll be able to do anything super cool beyond the functionality already present, but I’d love to take the mod in a direction most people would like to see it go.
What this mod does:
– Adds a deployable campfire, tent, chair, and bed that conforms with the base game’s cooking and sleeping systems
– Features a tiered equipment system with three levels of camping gear:
– Basic – A simple setup available to all players
– Standard – Enhanced gear when carrying a Camping Kit
– Fancy – Premium equipment when carrying a Wayfarer’s Kit
– Unique tent for players who possess a certain rare item
– Realistic placement with terrain alignment that adjusts to the landscape
– Compatible with The Cooking Mod and Nutrition Mod, for a complete outdoor survival experience
Who it’s for:
This mod is ideal for role players and immersion enthusiasts who want to experience some extra depth with their medieval travel. Not so much for people looking for more stat boosts, getting silly bonuses etc. It’s more geared towards players who enjoy taking their time exploring the beautiful world of Bohemia, setting up camp when the sun sets rather than rushing to the nearest inn. Whether you’re a playing poacher Henry spending days in the forest, or explorer Henry going on a long sight seeing journey, or just someone who wants to admire the night sky, this camping mod aims to enhance your gameplay by making traversing the game world a richer, more rewarding experience.
How to use it:
– Deploy your campsite anywhere suitable in the world (the terrain alignment calculations work hard, but in general, the flatter the ground the better) with the new key binds available in the main Settings menu (Place Bed, Place Fire, Place Chair, Pack Bed, Pack Fire, Pack Chair, and Pack Camp). I consciously decided against implementing a limitation of being in town or surrounding area, for maximum flexibility. You can put your camp down in a corner of town, in someone’s house, on the edge of a cliff, wherever you choose. It’s up to you to use the mod how you want, realistically or otherwise.
– Look for Camping Kits, Wayfarer’s Kits, and Drying Kit from merchants and innkeepers to upgrade your camping experience with better equipment. Each tier offers unique visual styles and arrangements that reflect your character’s status and wealth. You simply need to have the item in your inventory, and the next time you place camp equipment, it will reflect the new gear addition.
– Combine with The Cooking Mod and The Nutrition Mod, to bring some depth to the survival mechanics, enabling the ability to prepare fancy meals at your campfire, manage realistic nutritional behavior for Henry, all while enjoying the peaceful ambiance of your personal camp.
Important Notes:
This turned out to be an extensive exercise in creative problem solving to get the game system to allow for dynamically placing interactive smart objects like fires and beds. It does not like this black magic, and there will probably be bugs. 1500+ lines of code later, it works, but there are certain aspects I was not able to work around:
If you place the camp bed, and it is obstructed by any model (invisible or otherwise), like sticks, branches, etc. it can, and most often will fail the animation and refuse to allow you to use it. So if you put the bed down, and it won’t let you sleep in it, pick it back up and put it somewhere else.
The same is true for the Drying Rack. If something is obstructing the path to playing the drying rack animation, it simply will not allow use of the rack. Have to pick it back up and put somewhere else where it’s not obstructed.
Due to the way mods are combined with the game, if two mods change the same file, the one that loads last wins with the changes and overwrites the other mods changes. There are a few mods that also add key binds, so if you have something like USII or The Hardcore Mod (or any mod that adds new key bindable actions), whichever mod loads last gets the key binds, and the rest don’t.
If the key bind conflict problem applies to you, here are the console commands I use for development so that you can use the console to spawn and remove camping gear instead of the key binds:
1. Open console with squiggly ~
2.Type a command and press enter:bed #places the bed
chair #places the chair
fire #places the campfirepbed #packs up the bed
pchair #packs up the chair
pfire #packs up the fire
pcamp #packs up anything that is deployed3. Close console with ~ again
How to uninstall:
To uninstall, pack away the camp to ensure there is nothing left deployed.
Save and exit
Delete the mod folder from /KingdomComeDeliverance2/Mods/
